About Crazy for Sanity

Hi, y'all! My name is Lauren and I am pleased you have taken the time to get to know me a little better. I have two kids, a girl and boy, two dogs, a Puggle and a lab/husky mix, and a wonderful husband who recently separated from the Army. We are still SO proud of him. I have my Associates in Elementary Education and a Bachelor's in Psychology. One day I hope to complete my education and become a counselor! I am a stay-at-home mom that enjoys reading, playing video games, crafting, cooking, and spending time with family. I am slightly reclusive, but love to communicate from afar. I nanny children daily within my home and I plan on using this blog to outline ideas for bringing more education and joy into my home. I hope you enjoy what I have to write, and if you have any questions, just let me know!

Eternal Bliss

In a sea of euphoria, trees sway in the gentle breeze of wisdom and solitude.

Peace warms the night chills, while colors become vivid and filled with emotion.

Pain, suffering, despair all hover in the shadows, the sun piercing through the darkness like arrows whistling through the air.

Grasping for that last tendril of light, yanking on the drowning hope of tomorrow.

Breaking through the rough surface of the stormy sea, the waters still and reflect the lonely moon.

A gentle breeze carries a tune, filled with love and passion, strength and compassion.

Shadows turn to doubts, chased away by demons of the light in their holy war.

Darkness is consumed by the brightest light, spreading the roots of humanity through the sea of sorrows.

Forgiveness blossoms, as sweet nectar breathes life into the black and white memories.

Courage beckons like a single bright star in the night sky, leading the way to eternal bliss.

My name is Lauren…and I am an OCR.

Well, if you haven’t read my “About Me” section, here’s a quick rundown. My name is Lauren. I’m 28. We live in South Carolina. I have an A.A. with a concentration in elementary education and a B.S. in Psychology. In two years, when my son can start 4K, I will be going back to school to become a licensed counselor (at the very least). I have accepted the responsibility of putting my education on hold so we can become financially stable (better late than never!). I have been married almost 9 years to MW (man-wo lol). We were 19, young and in love. It’s been rough, but we have made it and we are content and happy. We have two beautiful children, Princess (8 yrs – girl) and Prince (2 yrs – boy). We also have two dogs, Bruiser (my puggle) and Willow (our lab/husky mix). We live in the country on Lake Murray, and other than freezing in the winter and dealing with bugs in the summer, we LOVE it.

Another thing I love?! Reading. I am an OCR – Obsessive Compulsive Reader. That is not an “official” psychology label, but rather something I jokingly came up with for myself. I read A LOT. I mean, I can read an entire series in just a few days. I become absorbed by the story and kind of ignore everything. My husband is the same way. He is currently reading a series and I do not exist haha But it’s comforting to lay beside each other at night after the kids are asleep and just hold hands or entwine our legs and read. No words need to be spoken, but the touch and closeness is comforting. I think that shows a real relationship, after so many stressful years.

Anywho, back to the point of this post, My name is Lauren..and I am an OCR. I am not ashamed of it. I do feel guilty when my children want to play or go outside and I just want to read, but I do make up for it! We are a family who loves electronics, so we are absorbed most of the time. But at the same time we are always around each other and take strength from that closeness. We are teaching our rather cautious Princess how to ride a bike with no training wheels. She is growing in confidence every day, and I am SO proud of her. It is powerful watching your child learn something that YOU are teaching them. What a feeling of utter joy! And waiting until they are ready instead of pushing them builds their confidence much more steadily.

Man, this post is all over the place. I apologize, it’s just been a while since I’ve written and I have a lot of ideas floating around. I just finished the Sweet Trilogy by Wendy Higgins. It’s a YA novel (directed toward teenagers), but the storyline is pretty fantastic! I may start blogging about reading. I love to gush about my favorite novels. I’ll consider that, because I am seriously obsessed with reading good books. Key word being good. After the first chapter I can tell you whether I will like the book or not. Since I love to read, if I don’t like the book, I’m not going to finish it. No use wasting my precious time reading something I’m not going to like just because. Once I start a book, it becomes my entire focus. I do put it down and spend time with the kids, but in all of my “downtime” (which is every few hours for about 30 minutes), I am reading. And I stay up late. Way too late haha

reading-a-book-funny-quotes

I know there are others out there that do the same thing. I see a bunch of groups on Goodreads agreeing to read the same books and monitoring conversations…but I just want to read and gush when I feel like it lol If you want, look up my Goodreads account and recommend some books. Or comment here!

Well, done with my random thoughts. If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading! If you have no idea what I just talked about…pick up a book and get absorbed in it. And if you DO know what I’m talk about, you rock! 😉 lol

5 Days…

Wow, it does not feel like it’s been 5 days since my last post. I got a little overwhelmed trying to come up with ideas for my topic day so I kind of steered clear of blogging. I was not enjoying myself. I will still do my Top 13 every once in a while, but in general, I’m gonna write about what I want to write about, when I want to! No pressure!

Now, I am about to post a new recipe. It was TO DIE FOR. Simple and quite tasty!

Anyways (I know! I hate that saying but whatever!), I just wanted to give a shout out and apologize for no writing. I have been spending a lot of time with my family. I can’t complain. It’s been nice. I’ve also been reading A LOT. I mean a lot, a lot. I’ve read three series in the last 5 days. I am a very fast reader and the books were not horribly wrong. I love indulging in YA books 🙂

I’ve also been slacking with my crochet. I was planning on having it done by Valentine’s Day for my mama but I don’t see that happening. Oh well, go with the flow lol

Time to set up my recipe post. Peace out.

Top 13 BEST Movies of the 2000s…In No Particular Order!

And we are back with the Top 13 BEST Movies of the 2000s, in no particular order. A slew of movies came out during this decade. It was the TRUE introduction to modern graphics, stories, and CG affects. This is going to be a tough countdown, because I loved so many movies from this decade, just like the 1990s.

Top 13 BEST Movies of the 2000s

1. Taken (2008)

Taken

Liam Neeson’s huge return to the big screen after his wife’s death was astounding. He’s gorgeous and a badass, despite his age! The description IMDb gives is “A retired CIA agent travels across Europe and relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter, who has been kidnapped while on a trip to Paris.”

2. Gladiator (2000)

Gladiator

Great film score, great story, great acting. A wee bit long, but still amazing. The description IMDb gives is “When a Roman general is betrayed and his family murdered by an emperor’s corrupt son, he comes to Rome as a gladiator to seek revenge.”

3. Avatar (2009)

Avatar

The highest grossing film in the history of movies, and I understand why! Visually astonishing, great storyline, and full of romance, action, and intrigue. The description IMDb gives is “A Paraplegic Marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.”

4. Star Trek (2009)

Star Trek

I’ve always appreciated this franchise because of my father, but this updated version featuring Chris Pine was entertaining, funny, and choked-full of action! The description IMDb gives is “The brash James T. Kirk tries to live up to his father’s legacy with Mr. Spock keeping him in check as a vengeful, time-traveling Romulan creates black holes to destroy the Federation one planet at a time.”

5. Big Fish (2003)

Big Fish

This movie was either loved or hated. I walked a fine line for many years, but now I find it soothing to watch and full of imagination. The description IMDb gives is “A son tries to learn more about his dying father by reliving stories and myths he told about his life.”

6. Pride & Prejudice (2005)

Pride & Prejudice

What a great remake of this book, movie, story. Keira Knightley is amazing and Matthew Macfadyen makes one of the most swoon-worthy Mr. Darcy’s EVER. The description IMDb gives is “Sparks fly with spirited Elizabeth Bennet meets single, rich, and proud Mr. Darcy. But Mr. Darcy reluctantly finds himself falling in love with a woman beneath his class. Can each overcome their own pride and prejudice?”

7. Love Actually (2003)

Love Actually

One of the best movies ever. I usually don’t like movies or stories with multiple characters intertwined, but this story is smooth and full of laughter and love. The description IMDb gives is “Follows the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London, England.”

8. Iron Man (2008)

This leads him to conflict within his own company.”

9. Donnie Darko (2001)

Donnie Darko

A twisted, dark film that shows just how far cult films will go. The description IMDb gives is “A troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a large bunny rabbit that manipulates him to commit a series of crimes, after narrowly escaping a bizarre accident.” Gary Jule’s “Mad World” also became a world hit!

10. Mamma Mia! (2008)

A fun musical that will have you coming back for more! The description IMDb gives is “The story of a bride-to-be trying to find her real father told using hit songs by the popular ’70s group ABBA.”

11. Transformers (2007)

Transformers

The movie that started it all. Yes, there were cartoons before, but this rendition of a classic animated story blew up the world. From toys and lunch boxes, to costumes, Transformers was a HUGE hit!. The description IMDb gives is “An ancient struggle between two Cybertronian races, the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons, comes to Earth, with a clue to the ultimate power held by a teenager.”

12. A Beautiful Mind (2001)

A Beautiful Mind

Russel Crowe delivers a powerful performance that has resonated with me for many years. The description IMDb gives is “After a brilliant but asocial mathematician accepts secret work in cryptography, his life takes a turn for the nightmarish.” Twists and turns galore!!

13. Stardust (2007)

Stardust

Robert De Niro as the flamboyant Captain Shakespeare? Superb! Full of fun, romance, and action…and I just happened to watch it this morning! The description IMDb gives is “In a countryside town bordering on a magical place, a young man makes a promise to his beloved that he’ll retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the magical realm.”

The 2000s brought about a HUGE improvement with graphics, sound, and screen orientation. Movies nowadays make movies from 10 years ago look obsolete. The 2000s started this phenomenon and it has only gotten better! All of this information was found on IMDb. Make sure to check out my Top 13 BEST Movies of the 1980s and the Top 13 BEST Movies of the 1990s.

Top 13 BEST Movies of the 2010s…In No Particular Order!

Even though this decade is only halfway done (WHAT?!?!) there have been plenty of awesome films that have come out. This one is a little easier to countdown since there are few movies to choose from, but if the next half of the decade is the same, this decade will have topped all other decades with favorites!! The Top 13 BEST Movies of the 2010s begin now!

Top 13 BEST Movies of the 2010s

5. Life of Pi (2012)

Life of Pi

I was hesitant to put this one on the list because of the “twist.” This was quite the disturbing film when you figure out what is going on, but the graphics are beautiful, amazing, modern. The description IMDb gives is “A young man who survives a disaster at sea is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor: a fearsome Bengal tiger.”

6. Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own.”

7. Prisoners (2013)

Prisoners

Hugh Jackman is AMAZING in this film. The lengths he goes to in finding his daughter are right up there with what I would do. The twists and turns are compelling and lead to a WHAT?! kind of ending. The description IMDb gives is “When Keller Dover’s daughter and her friend go missing, he takes matters into his own hands as the police pursue multiple leads and the pressure mounts. But just how far will this desperate father go to protect his family?”

8. Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

Edge of Tomorrow

I’ve never been a huge fan of Tom Cruise, but his more recent films are great, including this action-packed, funny film similar to Groundhog’s Day. Meanwhile, the Red Mist plots an act of revenge that will affect everyone Kick-Ass knows.”

A modern musical that was beautifully remade. A bit surprised with Russel Crowe and Hugh Jackman singing, but Anne Hathaway blew me away! The description IMDb give is “In 19th-century France, Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after breaking parole, agrees to care for a factory worker’s daughter.
